Cases of porencephaly and global atrophyof the temporal lobe were highly related to prenatal or perinatal insults including preterm delivery and asphyxia.
It is associated with high perinatal mortality, thick fissured skin, marked ectropion (eyelid eersion), eclabium (eersion of the lips), and flexion deformities.
Maternal complications include hypovolemic shock, Sheehan syndrome which is a type of perinatal pituitary necrosis that results from hypovolemia, as well as renal failure.
